Social Media Debate; See The Bright Side

Have you ever used social networking sites or have known someone else who uses them? Do you, or that other individual believe that social media is harmful to society? If you do, then you may need to reconsider it. Social networking sites are beneficial to society, and after reading this, hopefully, you will be completely convinced that social media helps our lives.

To start things off, I will introduce the idea that social media allows people to keep in touch with friends and/or family. For instance, social media had allowed myself to communicate with my family when I would have otherwise been unable to, due to the situation I was in during that time. This example shows that social media can provide another method to contacting others. Furthermore, a family member of mine had said that “I really enjoy Wechat service which allows me to talk or text with my family and friends anytime I want and have face to face conversations. Wechat brings happiness in my life!”

Aside from helping you keep in contact with others, social media also allows people to communicate with others that they may not know, and share what they think. This can help build certain relationships online or act as a way for people to express themselves. According to the article “Video gaming is more social than we might think”, after two people met online in a video game, they became friends and talked nearly every day through a social media app, Discord. This shows a clear example of how social media can benefit your life. However, you may question the safety of online usage and whether it should be done. There is a solution to this and it involves being aware of what you post, so do not let it ruin your experience of social media.

Apart from all of the positive statements about social media, some people can say that social media can cause depression through either cyberbullying or viewing others’ lives and comparing them to your own. People can avoid this by blocking them or deciding to not view them.
