Social media is well known throughout the world. But some people beg the question, is social media helpful or harmful? I’m here to prove how social media is bad for kids. It can effect them in the future, it can ruin friendships, and can lure in cyber bullies. Don’t believe me? Read on and you may just be convinced.
Social media can affect kids in the future. Kids can post many things on social media but how don’t think they are aware of the consequences. For example, “Some schools have suspended or expelled students for things they posted online, even outside of school hours” stated an article called “Out Of Line Online.” This evidence supports the claim that social media can affect kids in the future. This is seen since it shows you fan even get suspended. Another example is another quote stated by “Out Of Line Online.” Its says in the article “Being responsible with your personal information can damage your relationships and even your future opportunity to be admitted to college.” This evidence also proves that kids can be affected in the future for the things they post online. I say this because it shows how it can even stop you from getting into a college. After what you have read, you can see that social media can affect your future. Still don’t want to give it up? Well there’s more.
Another reason why kids should not use social media is because it can ruin friendships. Are you close with your friends? Well social media can possibly be the end of it. For example, “Out Of Line Online” states “Another time, one of Rachel’s friends posted something about a boy another girl liked. The other friend was not happy the news was out”. Another quote given by the same article says “But that doesn’t mean it won’t cause embarrassment or damage to friendships.” These quotes from the article proves the fact that social media can ruin friendships. These quotes are also credible because it can happen to anybody. In addition, some readers may be able to relate to this. Hopefully even convinced not to have social media. Still not convinced? Well i’m not finished.
Last reason why kids should be no where near social media is because it can lure cyber bullies. What’s worse then having bullies at school? Having wherever you go. Well that’s exactly what cyber bullies are, and social media can cause them. For example, In the article “Cyber-bullying crackdown” it states “The attacks doesn’t only happen in person, but also continued online.” This proves the claim that cyber bullies are on social media. It is not safe for kids being on social media, based on the given information. Another quote by “cyber-bullying crackdown” says “Fifteen years old phoebe prince of south Hadley,mass, was also driven to suicide by bullies who attacked her both at school and online.” This evidence is important because cyber-bullying is a big problem. As shown, it can sadly even lead to suicide. This is why kids should not use social media, but let’s see some arguments why it is good.
Though the given information, some people think that social media can help kids make friends. But social media has a bigger chance of breaking friendships rather than making. SGL students give their take on the topic. SGL student christian says “ I have lost friendships through social media after arguments due to certain stuff being posted.” Another statement was made by SGL student shaniyah, “I have definitely lost more friends then gained through social media.” These statements are credible since they are real experiences by kids who use social media. This only proves more how social media destroys friendships.
In conclusion, you should not have social media at a young age, it can be harmful to you and your life. It can even lead to suicide. So please reconsider when your downloading some sort of social media.
