The other day my friend had some crucial trouble with social media is that got me wondering is social media safe? I try to think it it safe or not, and then I came to a conclusion is not so safe. I thought of all the reasons why social media can make people’s lives worse. For one thing there are a lot of crazies people out there that want to know every single thing about you.

The first reason I thought of was that social media is a is a dangerous website where identity thieves can steal your identities if you aren’t wise with your posts. I read this article and Carl, from the national crime prevention, said, “There are a lot of child molesters out there that wants to just make your day worse and can really affect your real life”. This shows how you are not safe on social media, and people just are watching your every move. This can show how people just want to know everything about you and it can hurt you in the real life. Also one of my friends in my real life almost got hacked by someone, and almost lead address to a unidentified stranger online. This was really scary for my friend, and he hasn’t used his laptop ever since. He says,” I only use my desktop computer now, I don’t want to go back on my laptop so the hacker continue finding my address.” This shows  how dangerous people online could really be.

Then I thought, don’t teens and middle school kids use social media and the negative people use social media can possible harm them in school. So I found out that social media can lead people to broken friendships, embarrassment, and sometimes ruined future opportunities. In the same article I was reading earlier, Vanessa, part of the suicide help hotline, said that,” Being a responsible with your personal information can lead to broken relationships or a ruined future life. Now that warns me to be more wise about what I post and I should be more thoughtful about what I will say. Also I got a chance to interview Rafael Fermin Lopez from 704 and he had a great response,”When I posted something I shouldn’t have, it really affected me in my real life.” This is a real life experience of someone who regrets what they posted and now he says he has to deal with it in school.

On the contrary, some people may think, oh social media is a place to be inspired and to be helped and to blah blah blah. But at the same time, there aren’t that many people out there that aren’t that nice to people. Like on Article 5,  this one girl met a friend online they’ve been friends for a while until she realized that he was secretly trying to find her location. She was basically friends with a hacker! Also, my mom told me,” When I use social media, people are just trying to probably make people’s days worse”. As you can see, when people use social media there’s just no possible way to avoid negative stuff. That’s all the time we have, please everyone make sure that you are protected online so you can possibly not deal with cyberbullies or hackers. Peace out.
